The Lightpro Dome diffuser is a large, round, soft and flexible diffuser that slips over the front of compatible flash units. The inside of the dome is completely textured to make the light dispersion even more “soft” than it would be otherwise. And because of this design, it is possible to make the material more translucent, keeping the unit from losing a lot of light while actually increasing the diffusion and softness of light. The included inverted dome allows y… More >>

Prolight Inverted Cloud Dome Flash Diffuser System for the Nikon SB-600, SB-800 & Olympus FL-36 Flash Units
I got the package today. When I saw the package and feel it, it was the wrong item they’ve sent me. They sent me a “Sto-Fen Diffuser” instead of the one I actually ordered which is the ” Prolight Inverted Cloud Dome Flash Diffuser System for the Nikon SB-600, SB-800 & Olympus FL-36 Flash Units”. This is crazy… I didn’t even open that package yet. But when feel and touched it was different, totally different. I know it’s the “sto-fen” which is only what–$10??? what the heck happen.. Need my dome diffuser not this one…

With much debate I originally bought the Gary Fong lightsphere for an SB-600 because I didn’t trust the “price” of this product. I mean usually you get what you pay for… right? Well it only took me about a month to lose the GF lightsphere at a shoot and I had a hard time paying anothing 40 plus dollars to replace it. I went on Amazon and saw this Prolight Cloud Dome and figured I might as well just try one out, I could always return it.
The item arrived in a flimsy paper box deal… kinda weird but I guess it’s not like they’re shipping the hope diamond or anything. The first thing I noticed was the odor that it gave off… like a plasticky rubber smell that’s not too pleasent. After opening I inspected the item to look for flaws and inconsistancies with he GF version… let me tell you… THERE ARE NONE! The only difference is this is cheaper and comes with the amber dome for half the price. Item works great and EXACTLY like Gary Fongs. You’ll have to be careful with the type of flash you’re using though… I use a SB-600 and it tends to be a bit heavy on the joint to cause the flash to fall back to its’ 90 degree angle sometimes (as did gary’s) but that’s just a function of my speedlight being a bit worn I guess.
Let me save you time and money… buy this produt! hahaha
4 out of 5 stars… minus 1 for the smell

Except that it is cumbersome to use, I LOVE this thing. It gives a wonderfully soft light and is perfect for that fill you need for weddings and event photography. It’s something you need in your tool kit. Well worth the price.

i purchased this to help even out the light while taking photographs for a wedding. while doing test shots, i realized that i wasn’t getting much of a result. with my nikon sb600 at a 45 degree angle, i was pretty much getting the same shots. so i thought to myself, why carry around this big bulky tupperware-looking thing on my flash with the possibility of it falling off into someone’s dinner, when it doesn’t produce a better result? so i didn’t even use it. unless i am doing something wrong, i didn’t see much difference in my photographs.
